This one’s for all the armchair expeditionaries out there.
This year, Meru is the peak to pay attention to. And it’s OK if you’ve never heard of it. Or Camp 4 Collective. Or anything remotely climbing-related, because this expedition is happening now.
Meru Team 11, featuring Outsider favorites Conrad Anker, Jimmy Chin and Renan Ozturk are attempting to climb Mount Meru in India for the second time since 2008. I spoke with Conrad a year ago about the venture before, but sadly, I’ve only now stumbled upon the Meru trailer / film from adventure media company Camp 4 Collective now. Meru in Hindu is the “center of the universe,” near where the Ganges begins. So as Anker and the others describe it, they’re off again to tackle what’s known as the Shark’s Fin in the region, with average daily temps around 14 degrees.
